Finished this painting finally, been busy with framing and preparing the house to paint. My reference picture was taken of the man right at high noon which is why the shadow on his shoulders is so circular.
That's amazing, and I really like the shadow shape - very unusual and creates a lot of interest IMO. What a portraitist you are! I could never paint like this, but if it were mine, the only thing I might consider is softening/knocking back the edges/brightness of the stubble and hair. But I don't know what I'm talking about, so take that with several grains of kosher salt.
Thanks Nick for the critique. I know I made the edges of the hair too hard and was "planning" to do it softer, but sometimes the old plans don't come together. Always appreciate a good critique, hey you have a good eye, don't doubt yourself.
