Day 29 - Incoming Tide

oil on gessobord
8 x 10

I have not painted for a few days for the
30 day challenge, I had other orders from
my Etsy shop to get in the mail. I tried
another seascape and painted this one with
palette knives and a few brushes. I am
really liking the palette knife where I
can load it with a variety of colors and
get the effects as in the rocks with
little effort.

Day 23

Oil on gessbord
8 x 10

Decided to experiment with color and not use
all local colors. I chose the warm vs cool
palette on this one. I probably scrapped
this painting three times in various places
because of the mudding of colors that happen
when you have complimentary colors side by
side and you need to blend them. I used the
palette knife and brushes which helped alot.

Day 20 - Inlet

oil on gessobord
8 x 10

I painted this with a palette knife and a few
brushes to smooth out some areas or add a few
more details in the sky and rocks. This is not
a scene from my reference photos but a mixture
of memories of favorite places. I got burnt out
doing fast and simple smalls so this is what
I needed to do for a nice break.

Day 16 - Spotted Cows

oil on gessobord
6 x 6

Done with animals for a while and on to
a landscape or two. I have had a few
paintings that were "scrapers". Get out
the spachula and scrape off the ugly
mess you are making. Learn from it and
move on.

Day 15 - Little Calf

oil on gessobord

8 x 10

I have been painting a series of cows and
like the big brown eyes of this calf. I plan
on doing some landscapes with a painting
knife soon.

Day 14 - Hog Heaven

oil on gessobord 8 x 10

Wanted to add a little humor to the paintings and
with this pig in hog heaven without a care in the
world. If he only knew that someday he'll be pork
chops and bacon.

Red Shoes - # 13

oil on gessobord
5 x 7

Loved the red tennis shoes in the sun in reference photo
and the memories of the kids riding their skate
boards.

Let's Go - #12

oil on 6 x 6 gessobord

Took a little longer to do a more detailed
painting of a bicycle and the shadow across
the pavement. I have a series of these that
I have done or are planning to do. Love the
red paint on them.

Day #11 - 30 Paintings in 30 Days

oil on gessobord 6 x 6

Love being at the beach and now that it is
winter I can't wait to be in the sun again.
Always hard to paint such small figures, but
took on the challenge.

Day 10 - Call Me

Oil on 8 x 8 gessobord

The younger generation will not get the title. They
are the cell phone, cell tower generation. I remember
the day of party lines, knowing your ring and listening
into neighbors conversations when we were little. How
things change through the years. Now everybody has their
attention on Facebook and their iPhones.

Day 8 - Whoops!

No painting listed on my blog today. On the
30 paintings in 30 days I accidentally uploaded
the same painting I put up the day before. It's
late at night- I need some sleep ya think.

Day 8 - Summer Cows

oil 6 x 6 on gessobord

I have missed a few days of painting -life
gets in the way, but I will paint on.
This one was a quick painting of a group of
cows I took a few summers ago. Finally had
the desire to paint a few cows from this
reference photo. Left out many of the details
as in trees, other cows and the field they
were in. The photo was rather dark with
a bad exposure. Pleased with this one.

Day 6- Mountain Meadow

oil on 6 x 6 gessobord

I did a black and white value sketch out of my imagination
of a mountain scene and went with the design to do this painting.
I got a little carried away with the center grass and lost the
oringinal line drawing which had much more eye appeal. I need to
be aware of boring areas as I paint and get out my scraper
and get it fixed right away. I got a little to fixed on
detail with this one and should have used more colors in
shadows and light areas. So much to learn and experiment
with. Trying to unwire my brain to KISS-Keep It Simple
Stupid!

Day 4 - Jars of Jam

oil 6 x 6 on gessobord

I set up some jars of jam and did not do a pre drawing
of this one. It is not perfect, but in the challenge we
are not striving for perfection. I tried to do this one
under two hours, I think I did it in an hour and a half.
Tried to convey the appearance of glass and reflections.

Day Two - Store Front

oil 8 x 10

Day two for 30 Paintings in 30 Days.
I used a reference photo for this on from morgue file and after finishing
this painting noticed the windows were a little off-left leaning...what!
I can fix it if I decide to repaint this one in the future, but will be
careful of reference photos in the future, but for practice it was a good
one to get my lights and shadows in and leave out alot of detail.

30 Paintings in 30 Days

oil 8 x 10

This is my first painting for the challenge on Leslie Saeta's
blog 30 Paintings in 30 Days. This painting in oil is on
a cheaper canvas cardboard which was not intended to be
sold. I did not pre-draw the roses, just puttingthe paint down fast
with a painting knife and some brushes. I hope to keep up with
the challenge which is intended to help us as artists to develop
our style and loosen, develope better brushstrokes and use less details
in our paintings.
